Nike’s 20th anniversary Doernbecher Freestyle collection continues to emerge via official images ahead of its January 25th release. Here we have a Nike Pegasus 41 designed by Tima Sviridenko; an 11-year-old bone marrow transplant recipient diagnosed with X-linked lymphoproliferative disease (XLP).
Right off the bat, the inspiration behind the design is clear as day. Tima’s Pegasus 41 is inspired by his love for cats, particularly his family cat Murka as well as his favorite feline stuffed animal. Murka can be spotted hanging off the lateral Swoosh logo, while his favorite cat stuffie, Murzik, shows up as a lace-hanging patch. These also come with custom outsoles featuring cat paws so you can leave prints everywhere you go, and moreover, when you hit the lights, the embossed paw print detailing over the forefoot glows in the dark.
As for the rest of the design, the tropical color palette was chosen to honor Tima’s bone marrow donor Dylan, who resides in Florida. The date of Tima’s bone marrow transplant appears on the ends of the laces, one of which reads “March 4th” while the other reads “March Forth” in a clever reinterpretation. The lace tips are also customized, featuring text reading “Dylan” and “Tima” as another nod to the 11-year-old’s donor.
Tima’s Pegasus 41 will release January 25th alongside five other shoes designed by Doernbecher Children’s Hospital patients, with all proceeds of course going to benefit the hospital.
