It was twenty years ago that Connor Doherty, the then 15-year-old son of Nike executive Michael Doherty, came up with the idea of connecting Nike’s creative teams with patients at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Michael, who joined the board of the hospital in 2002, approached his Nike colleagues with the idea, and the rest is history. Nike’s annual Doernbecher Freestyle collections have since helped raise over $40 million for the hospital over the past two decades, and come January 25th, that figure looks to grow as Nike prepares to release their six-shoe 20th anniversary capsule.

The lineup includes Air Max shoes, a Nike Pegasus 41, and for our purposes; an Air Jordan 6. The sneaker is designed by 15-year-old Jillian Beagley, who was diagnosed with a serious liver disease as an infant and underwent a transplant at age 11. Beagley offers a tribute to her living donor through embroidered text reading “Give Life” on the toe box, remarking “I hope it will inspire other people to register to be organ donors, because there are so many kids out there on transplant waiting lists” (via OHSU Foundation).

The alternating blue and pink colorway echoes Jillian’s upbeat energy, while a set of interchangeable velcro patches speak to some of her favorite things; basketball, soccer, lacrosse, cucumbers, and her Stanley tumbler. A close-up look also reveals heart-shaped perforations across the collar, quarter, and forefoot, as well as more text reading “Sports Are My Joy” on the medial side of the midsole. We’re also hit with a glittery gold tongue as well as stitched “Gold” text under the Jumpman logo on the heel, included to echo the idea that everyone is “Pure Gold.”

Jillian’s Doernbecher Jordan 6 is scheduled to release on January 25th, 2025 in men’s sizing, with all proceeds benefiting Doernbecher via the OHSU Foundation. See official images below and tap our Jordan Release Dates page to browse more upcoming pairs by the Jumpman.
