Pharrell Previews The Louis Vuitton ButterSoft Sneaker

Louis Vuitton creative director Pharrell has officially unveiled a new LV sneaker via his @skateboard Instagram account, and if you recall his work with Nigo in the 2000s, you’re likely to recognize the inspiration at play.

The Louis Vuitton ButterSoft sneaker can be described a fusion of the Ice Cream Boardflip – a Pharrell skate shoe from 2005 – and the Nike Cortez. The paneling and stitching take after the Nike classic, while heavy padding makes for a 2000s streetwear aesthetic comparable to that of the Boardflip.

To the uninitiated; the Boardflip debuted as part of a collaborative line by Pharrell and Nigo’s skate brand Ice Cream (a subsidiary of Billionaire Boys Club) and Reebok in the 2000s. Not only does the ButterSoft feature a comparable silhouette, but many of the previewed colorways pay homage to the BAPE and Ice Cream era through bright color combinations. Some feature LV logos on the quarter, while others see the fashion house’s monogram pattern overtake the entire upper. One of the images posted shows about 50 different colorways, but it remains to be seen which will see a public release.

The ButterSoft will play a role in Louis Vuitton’s FW25 line, although no release dates have been mentioned at the time of this writing. Know that this page will be kept current as more colorways and release information emerges.
