The Nike-Doernbecher partnership, a sneakers-meets-cancer-care initiative that’s raised nearly $50 million dollars over its lifespan, is ringing in its 20th anniversary in just a few days’ time. While the requisite Air Jordan model arrives as a part of the capsule, so too does a range of the Swoosh’s latest offerings. When it comes to basketball shoes, there’s no better representative of their recent chapter than the Nike Sabrina 2, the choice for 9-year-old osteosarcoma survivor Sophia Jenkins.

“Happy go-lucky” is the term attached to Sophia by her care team at Doernbecher, and clearly the guiding principle across her version of the Sabrina 2. Look to the sole unit for proof; smiley faces, hearts and flowers adorn the underfoot section, with some clever branding inserted via a Swoosh mouth. Some of Jenkins’ favorite keepsakes also make appearances, with Nike recreating the print from her favorite fuzzy blanket on the sock-liner and planting her favorite pickle stuffie on the vamp.

Overall, it’s hard not to feel the love that went into this design, owing in no small part to the dominant purple and pink tonality that defines this shoe. We finish with a truly one-of-a-kind touch: each pair of Sophia’s Sabrina 2 from the Doernbecher 20 collection comes with a friendship bracelet kit, reflecting Jenkins’ love for Taylor Swift and the hobby’s synonymous status in the fandom in the wake of the Eras Tour.
