Even though it’s been supplanted by the 1906R as New Balance’s most popular tech runner, the New Balance 2002R is still a staple at retailers and one of the most called-upon daily drivers in the sneaker world. 2025 doesn’t look to be a big year for collaborations, but compelling GRs are what made the 2010-born runner a mainstream sensation to begin with. This “Great Plains” colorway is the Boston brand’s latest, available now via the New Balance website.
The titular “Great Plains” color applies to the shoe’s brown suede overlays, aptly named after the picturesque North American flatland. Aa slightly lighter “Incense” panel appears around the quarter, while the earthy palette is subtly disrupted by “Slate Grey” leather underlays around the forefoot and heel. A white midsole and black outsole cap off the delivery, although more brown hits on the cushioning pods and midfoot shank plate produce a tie-in with the upper.
As mentioned, the “Great Plains” 2002R is available now via New Balance and commands the standard $145 retail price. Our “Where To Buy” section below contains purchase links if you’re interested in picking up a pair.
Sticking with the Boston sneaker giant, the New Balance 1000 continues to surface in fresh colorways.
