The New Balance 991v2 Carries Out “Triple Black”

An everlasting look as the shoe enters its second year on shelves.

The New Balance 991v2 Carries Out “Triple Black”

Few palettes are as timeless or foolproof as “Triple Black.” As the newcomer New Balance 991v2 takes on the concept, truly the big question is what took it so long?

Given that we’ve been tracking the model since its 2023 debut, we should note that this stands as the first mainline pair to carry full jet-black tonality, but it’s not without precedent. In January 2024 came an adaptation of inky shades for one of the debut colorways. Then a shoe that interrupted said profile with flares of hi-vis accents for the London Edition 991v2, before Stone Island issued the most recent take on the idea. Paradoxically, as the shoe has gotten darker and darker, its prospective audience has shrunk.

The release of this edition rights that wrong, offering up the ever-stylish “Black Cat” style colorway on the 991v2 in earnest for the first time. The New Balance 991v2 “Triple Black” is projected to release in time for Spring 2025, carrying a $250 retail price once it does.
