The model's first ever Protro release.

Nike Kobe 3 Protro “Halo” Releasing In 2025

The Nike Kobe 3 is coming back for the first time in nearly a decade. Originally released in 2008 and last spotted in 2016 by way of the “Fade To Black” pack, @sneakerfiles and @zsneakerheadz report that a “Halo” Protro is in the works for Fall 2025.

If word is true, this will mark the first ever Kobe 3 release under Nike’s Protro banner. The aforementioned “Fade To Black” release was preceded by a “Misery” colorway in 2013, but as Kobe devotees are surely aware, Nike didn’t start modernizing Kobe Bryant shoe retros with improved tech until 2018.

Anything remotely having to do with Kobe will have a sizable contingent of interested buyers, but the Kobe 3 is largely thought of as one of the Mamba’s weaker Nike signatures. The high-top silhouette is pretty “out there” from an aesthetics standpoint, with a heavy TPU net wrapping almost the entire top half. Performance reviews were also less than stellar, with many noting that the model lacked viable traction for indoor courts. Moreover, with the Mamba being rightfully credited for popularizing the low-top basketball shoe movement, the Kobe 3 isn’t what comes to mind at the mention of Kobe Bryant shoes.

Images of the “Halo” Kobe 3 Protro for 2025 haven’t surfaced yet, but precedent allows us to make a well-educated guess as to how the shoe will materialize. Consistent with Kobe 8 and Kobe 9 releases of the same theme, expect an all-white shoe akin to the mockup above. To the uninitiated; the “Halo” series with ideated by Vanessa Bryant as a way of honoring Kobe’s life, legacy, and birthday (August 23rd). Nike hasn’t locked in an August 23rd, 2025 release date just yet, but reports of a Fall 2025 arrival all but confirm Nike will be sticking with its established “Halo” drop cadance.
