This Air Jordan 1 “Chicago” From 1985 Has The Clearest Michael Jordan Signature Ever

In good condition, the original Air Jordan 1 “Chicago” from 1985 goes for about $2,000 on the resale market. But an unworn player sample featuring Michael Jordan’s signature on the tongue? Sotheby’s is betting these will fetch at least $80,000.

Like Jordan Brand itself, the world famous auction house is celebrating the 40th anniversary of MJ’s signature line (and first NBA season) with a curated selection of one-of-a-kind shoes. The Genesis collection also includes a pair of game-worn Jordan 8 “Playoffs” from 1993 NBA Finals, as well as a pair of “Cardinal” Jordan 7s worn in a 64-point performance against Shaq’s Orlando Magic.

While Sotheby’s claims the Jordan 1 “Chicago” sample is unworn, the sizing aligns with what Jordan wore during his playing days. The left shoe is a size 13, while the right (the one with the signature) is a 13.5. Sotheby’s doesn’t mention where the shoes have been for the past 40 years, but whoever’s been taking care of them deserves a round of applause. The image gallery below shows minimal oxidation, and the Jordan signature is one of the cleanest we’ve ever spotted.

If you’ve got bags of cash to blow, the Sotheby’s Genesis auction will be open from December 2nd to December 16th. The signed Jordan 1 “Chicago” is expected to sell for $80,000-$120,000 when it’s all said and done.
