Original article published on November 17th, 2024: Teddy Santis’ stewardship of the MADE in USA collection has brought renewed energy to the brand’s seasonal collections. One of the most significant pieces of intrigue in the latest Fall/Winter capsule is bringing the New Balance 998 back to the fore, taking a half-year hiatus previously after a considerable push in 2023. Two colorways are queued up as the end of MADE in USA’s offerings for the year looms, including the New Balance 998 “Navy” that just landed.

Part of what makes Santis’ take on the model so novel is how it pushes the New Balance 998 beyond its typical, neutrally-toned territory. Don’t be mistaken; the heavy application of navy across the upper still keeps a staid energy intact, but flares of “Chrome Blue” and soft yellow, the layer concentrated under the eye-stays and complemented by an off-white midsole and sepia tonality towards the heel. As with all “MADE In” products out of New Balance, expect premium materials in hand, with buttery pigskin suede the best example of this colorway.

The New Balance 998 “Navy” releases via New Balance on November 21st, but pairs are already available via select retailers including Todd Snyder. Retail is set at $210; hit the links under “Where To Buy” to grab yours.
