Doublet’s ASICS GEL-Kayano 20 Reuses Old Shoeboxes

The ASICS GEL-Kayano 20 collaborations keep on coming. Following projects by KENZO, Bodega, and HAL Studios, Japanese fashion label Doublet is next in line for a spin on the resurgent 2013-born runner.

Doublet’s inaugural ASICS collaboration is inspired by cardboard boxes, more specifically, a box-inspired shoulder bag they released in collaboration with Beta Post in 2020 (there’s one on Grailed for $869). The subversive brand explores the idea of creating a shoe out of an ASICS box here, including cut-up logos among other elements found on traditional packaging. The materials utilized take after cardboard as well, with soft, textured fabric spanning the full base of the shoe. The delivery is sure to conjure memories of Nike’s batch of Experimental Air Force 1s from 2021, particularly the “UPS” aka “Archaeo Brown” colorway.

Back to the sneaker at hand, the Doublet x ASICS GEL-Kayano 20 retails for $225 and releases globally via Doublet, ASICS, and select retailers on November 16th. Keep our “Where To Buy” section handy for purchase links on that date.
