While Kanye West’s adidas Yeezy line is no more, the designers that helped shape the now defunct brand continue to influence the Three Stripes. Dingyun Zhang is one of them, staking claim to a Samba collaboration earlier this year and now spinning back with a capsule collection on October 15th. For our purposes, the highlight is an all-new model called the adidas Kouza.
Taking inspiration from the adidas Beijing 2008 Boxing Boot of all places, the Kouza centers around the concept of transformation. Fittingly named after an East Asian plant that changes in appearance through the year, the shoe delivers an unapologetically futuristic feel through a sharp, exaggerated heel guard. The triangular shape lends itself to myriad adidas EQT models, while liberal netting stands out as the key boxing-inspired touch. The quarter features an exposed window bordered by TPU, while the tongue and heel work in the fishnet fabric over leather panels.
Two colorways mark the model’s debut; a black option with sporty blue laces, and a more balanced tan, teal, and white arrangement. The capsule also includes two fresh Dingyun Zhang Sambas, both of which progress the puffed-up skate-inspired motif seen on Zhang’s inaugural adidas project earlier this year.
The adidas Originals by Dingyun Zhang capsule will release in full on October 18th via adidas CONFIRMED and select retailers for $350.
