Matt Varga A string of coveted releases hitting the market in the next 12 months has shifted attention to “the vault is open” and away from “Cult Classics.” Announced towards the top of the year, the branded Nike initiative signalled their intentions to retro some beloved, perhaps forgotten oldies, and the Air Max line has recieved a ton of that love. As we hurdle towards 2025, the unveiling of next year’s releases continues on with news that the Nike Air Max 90 “Escape” will get a retro after 23 years on the pine.
As mentioned in our coverage of the Air Force 1 of the same name, this earthy blend of “Light Cream/Light British Tan/Golden Beige/Sport Red” is surprisingly surging as of late, particularly buoyed by the concerted effort behind the Nigo Air Force 3 and his reference to the OG colorway with his very own PE/sample style. As we’ve seen with other similar retros in recent memory (the Nike Air Max 1 “Chlorophyll” and PHANTACi Air Max 1 a few comparable drops), original construction and specs should be expected, meaning the surprisingly refined colorway will appear unadulterated for next year.
For a final detail, this “Escape” retro will land during the AM90’s 35th year on the shelves, a momentous occasion for a company that famously places great importance on these sort of anniversaries. Expect more seminal colorways to arrive during 2025 to ring in the silhouette’s birthday.
