Andrew Rizzo Can the Nike Pegasus 2K5 rival the popularity of the Vomero 5? That’s certainly a tall task, but not one Nike’s shying away from. The early 2000s runner has been releasing at a torrid pace since Nike brought it back earlier this year, taking aim at the Y2K niche dominated by brands like New Balance and ASICS. Next up is a minty fresh “Fir” green arrangement, shown here via official images.
The titular hue accounts for the bulk of the design, with “Fir” pasted onto the leather cage, toe, mesh base, and midsole. The underlays and tongue bring a slightly lighter “Bicoastal” shade into the mix, while bright “Dusty Cactus” dots the tongue, Swoosh, and outsole. Nike also includes rope laces as opposed to oval-shaped sport ones, adding a bit of trail shoe sensibility to complement the shoe’s earthy palette.
As mentioned above, Pegasus 2K5s have been a dime a dozen over the past few months. Industry watchdogs are justified in saying Nike’s falling back into old habits by oversaturating the model as we’ve seen with the Air Force 1 and Dunk Low, leading many pairs to go on sale following their release. That might disappoint those with a hefty stake in Nike Inc., but chances are most folks aren’t complaining about a trending style being marked down. In any case, that could indicate the model’s typical $150 retail price isn’t doing it any favors, setting the 2K5 against more popular models like the Vomero 5 and New Balance 1906R.
