Next February is shaping up to be a huge month for Air Jordan Releases. A number of drops are suspected to revolve around NBA All-Star Weekend, including the Jordan 1 85 Bred, a new Union x Jordan 1 project, and for our purposes, the Air Jordan 5 “Black Metallic Reimagined,” shown here for the first time via images posted by @fk.llc on Instagram.
Black in April, it was reported that the Jordan 5 “Black Metallic” would return as a true retro for the shoe’s 35th anniversary. Then a few months later, news broke that the shoes would fall under Jordan Brand’s “Reimagined” series. Key changes include reflective piping and white laces, the latter of which is actually an original feature. The bulk of the upper still comes comprised of black nubuck, “Nike Air” dots the heel, and the sole remains unchanged. The height is also a bit taller so as to better mimic the original. Notably, the original Jordan 5 “Black Metallic” debuted at All-Star Weekend back in 1990 and is well regarded as one of the better original Jordan colorways of all time. Thus, an All-Star Weekend 2025 release makes more than enough sense.
The Jordan 5 “Black Metallic” has returned to shelves multiple times, most recently in 2016. Jordan purists might not consider “Reimagined” shoes viable alternatives, but if you’re put off by grey market prices for previous retros, there’s good news ahead. The 2025 release is considered a GR and will be produced in massive quantities, meaning everyone looking to cop should have little trouble hunting down pairs at retail.
