At one point exhibiting reticence in regards to bringing back time-honored releases, Nike has now let its belt loose several notches with a borderline gluttonous line-up of classic re-issues. Next up is one of the most sought after pairs from the storied Powerwall series from 2006 — the “BRS” edition that nodded to the brand’s earliest roots.
A quick recap of the Powerwall series: In 2006, Nike celebrated the History of Air Max footwear with a massive collection of limited-edition colorways of the Air Max 1, Air Max 90, Air 180, Air Max 93, Air Max 95, Air Max 97, Air Max 2003, and Air Max 360. These eight models were executed in seven different concepts, all in promotion of the brand’s first-ever full uncaged Air Max unit that spanned toe to heel — a full 360-degree sensation of support.
At its time, Air Max 1s were highly sought after due to its lack of production. Hardly the ubiquitous, readily-on-discount model it is today, Air Max 1 was king in the 2000s, which explains why some of the Powerwall issues have fetched well over $1,000 in the secondary market. The “BRS” edition, which featured the throwback italic cursive logo and a bevy of color combinations that reflected Nike’s earliest days, was easily the most sought after pair of the entire set.
News of a re-release began circulating in 2023, and the release of the Air Max 1 Slide in an identical colorway all but confirmed the re-release. Now, official images of the 2024 version confirm the rumors, although the shoes will occupy the Air Max 1 ’86 silhouette — the most “true to the original” shape that Nike introduced in 2023. The colorway remains true, although the differing shape will undoubtedly deter those who have been waiting for the release.
Currently, a release date is not yet known, but expect them later this Fall with an MSRP of $170.
