Mixed media meets familiar shades.

“Linen” Tones Hit A Shaggy Suede New Balance 550

Still functioning as the crux of the NB line three years into its renewed life cycle, Boston designers have started taking more risks with the New Balance 550. While retro basketball inspired pairs still sell incredibly well, new versions have iterated greatly on that formula, something accomplished once again with the upcoming women’s New Balance 550 “Slate Grey.”

Long-haired suede runs amok over this pairs upper, replacing the layered quarter panel and extending out towards the toe and heel. While that material shift is notable in and of itself, the undelying mesh and nubuck sections opt for a blend of “Olivine” and “Linen,” a vibrant mix of colors that we’d more readily expect on a model like the New Balance WRPD Runner. Underfoot is where this design strikes most familiar, retaining a neutral combo of trademark grey and off-white, ensuring that the vintage appeal of the New Balance 550 peeks through even in this experimental layout.

The New Balance 550 “Slate Grey” will likely materialize in the coming weeks, carrying the typical $120 retail price. Check out official looks included just ahead.

Staying in Boston, New Balance Grey Day 2024 is just around the corner, and we’ve got a preview of what’s in store.
