New Balance’s Retro-Futuristic WRPD Runner Chills Out In Icy Blue

New Balance may be pumping on all cylinders, but there are a few that have sputtered from the starting line. That would be the WRPD Runner silhouette, part of the brand’s new-meets-old design direction the skews a bit further towards the unseen via the super-aerodynamic midsole.

Despite launching to the public via collaborations with the likes of AURALEE, the WRPD Runner hasn’t quite a struck that perfect note among New Balance enthusiasts. The brand’s tech-runner offense has catapulted silhouettes such as the New Balance 1906R and 2002R to the forefront, while the continued success of the New Balance 550 keeps the brand’s sweet spot in the 1980s. Perhaps the WRPD Runner is just a bit too “out there” for it to truly catch the wave, but the Boston brand has been delivering great colorways typically seen in its 99X range.

Nevertheless, this newest in-line colorway of the model is available at select retailers such as Oneness and will arrive on newbalance.com shortly.

In other brand updates, the New Balance T500 is ready for a wide release.
