Perhaps sliding in a bit after the peak of “pre-distressed” sneaker discourse, ASICS is adding to the trend nevertheless. The “Pure Gold/Cold Moss” GEL-Kayano 14 wears chipped, worn away metallic paint in their latest colorway.
The connection has to be made given how inescapable the category once was. Yet these ASICS don’t go nearly the distance that Golden Goose or Balenciaga did with their footwear a few years back. For one, pre-worn aspects are solely aesthetic, no actual structural damage arrives alongside your pair.
Despite that detail, the implementation of those aspects is still quite considered. “Pure Gold” may give these their title, but the combination of these colors alludes to copper- the metallic shade obviously pointing to its unadulterated form, while the “Pure Moss” hints at Statue of Liberty style oxidation. On the rest of the shoe, a familiar yellowed off-white adorns the midsole, liner and laces, grounding the design in vintage fashion.
As of writing, no release date is currently set for the ASICS Gel-Kayano 14 “Pure Gold/Cold Moss.” We forecast a drop in the next handful of weeks, arriving in men’s sizing for $140.
