Converse Reveals The Weapon In Magic Johnson’s Mythical “Lakers” Colorway

Converse is off to a great start with the return of the Weapon. With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander tapped as the face of the new era of this iconic silhouette, the Weapon’s reissue earlier in February was met with open arms thanks to a series of lifestyle-conscious colorways of both the High and Low. However, even better news arrives as we show you a first look at the iconic “Lakers” colorway worn by Magic Johnson.

If you recall, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, the latter who appeared on behalf of Converse during the All-Star Weekend, were the faces of the Converse Weapon in 1986 via their Choose Your Weapon campaign. Their iconic ad, in which the two rivals were standing back-to-back, was creatively revived with two versions of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in 2024, expressing the modern day dichotomy of the sneaker’s basketball heritage and lifestyle sensibility.

In regards to the Weapon, the shoe’s most recognizable colorway is arguably the yellow/purple/white Lakers pair worn by the Los Angeles great in the late 1980s. Converse just sent Sneaker News a mystery pair of the Weapon, confirming that the shoes were made a limited edition pair and for Friends & Family only.

Back in 2020, the Weapon was re-crafted in 2020 as part of the brand’s CX line with an updated foam midsole. The entirety of the upper is built with a soft leather, further emanating that 1980s era look.
