Matt Varga Though often the Jordan line takes precedence in sneakerheads’ minds, the sneakers under Nike Basketball are often just as performance-minded and historical. That’s exactly the case for the Nike Air Flight 89, an archival sneaker that returned from the Nike vault last year. As it eases its way back into the world of wide Nike releases, they’re getting a brand new white and red colorway releasing in Grade School sizing.
The ties to other Nike releases are deep with the Air Flight 89, particularly the Jordan 4. Both share an original release year, and given the smaller size of their parent company relative to today, share a lot of the same basketball performance tooling. This release specifically also continues a trend of the Air Flight 89 taking on schemes before donned by their sister model, with the Alternate ’89 Jordan 4 from 2016 the clear inspiration.
The layered, chunky design principles of the Flight 89 are emphasized all the more in a two-tone scheme like the one featured here. True to those Alternate ’89s, red is used as an accenting shade, dressing the swoosh, midsole, liner and piping surrounding the lower side lace panel.
All those details make the “White/Red” Nike Air Flight 89 a perfect choice for the little hooper in your life. Releasing in kids sizes from 3.5Y to 7Y, they will retail for $120.
