Jovani Hernandez A new year is all but here, which means companies like Nike have already shifted focus to their plans for 2024.
Throughout the last several months, the Oregon-based sportswear behemoth has teased half-a-dozen different styles ripe with Valentine’s Day-appropriate colors, motifs, and messages. Recently, another Nike Dunk Low appeared ready for February 14th. Unlike previous options which seem exclusively for children, the newly-surfaced pair seems to arrive in sizing for adults. Color-blocking across the upper, however, differs from other Nike Sportswear offerings that’ve emerged since August. A pinkish-red sets the stage, taking over leather base layers. Panels placed atop the forefoot, along the tongue, and around the heel deviate in an off white hue; nearby profile swooshes, tongues, and Achilles’ heel panels revert to a wine-like shade of red. Underfoot, the Air Jordan 1-reminiscent outsole follows suit.
Akin to other popular Nike Dunks, the “Valentine’s Day” pair features an “aged” midsole. The design choice falls in line with the unshakable “Neo-vintage” trend while also nodding to the sneaker’s legacy since 1985. Spines and insoles are adorned with a pink flower that’s also appeared on other festive footwear in the last half-year. Laces on the latest take on Peter Moore’s design, however, are also adorned with plastic flower-shaped ornaments that can serve as dubraes.
