Kendrick Lamar and Nike Inc. are more than familiar with one another, previously signing on as a catalyst for the brand while unveiling a number of collaborative efforts from the Nike Cortez to the React Element 55. Following the founding of his own music label – pgLang – in March of 2020, the music collective has teamed up once again with Converse for a second take on the banner’s classic Chuck 70.
In a stark departure from the crisp white ambiguity that flooded the two entities’ collections in 2022, an OG monochrome treatment adheres to the mid-cut canvas solution. While the model’s jet-black uppers and crisp white vulcanized midsole imbue a number of archival embellishments, elements such as the hiking-style eyelets and the asymmetrical rubber varnish recontextualize the decades-old offering. A number of close-knit details ascertain the co-branded silhouette, casting “pgLang for” just above the medial star chevron logo while the banner’s lowercase letter “a” and further branding ascertain the insoles. What’s more, the upcoming installment boasts two different iterations that will be sent at random to each buyer. Keen eyes can quickly discern the mainline difference in that one pair features “Navy” pinstriping on the left foot and Irish Cream accents on the right while the other favors a light cream finish on the left and a bright crimson detailing on the right.
The minimalist pgLang x Converse Chuck 70 is expected to be released on November 2nd. In the meantime, both pairs can be seen below in detailed imagery.
