Dating back to the London Olympic Games in 2012, Nike has brought back the Air More Uptempo in its infamous red, white and blue uniform for each ensuing occurrence – 2016 and 2020 respectively. Alongside the recently revealed return of the Kobe 4 Protro “Gold Medal” that accompanied the Black Mamba to his 2008 Gold Medal with the Redeem Team, the Beaverton brand is bringing the iconic Air More Uptempo “Olympic” back to shelves for a sixth installment next Fall season.
Alongside the reported return of the Air Jordan 6 “Olympic”, the high-top trim signals that Nike Inc. will be going all out next year in celebration of the 2024 Games. Originally gracing the hardwood in Atlanta, Georgia alongside Scottie Pippen in the 1996 Summer Olympics, the silhouette is expected to explore the same exact tumbled leather and nubuck construction that debuted over 27 years ago – branded with Pippen’s #8 jersey number on the heel in a “University Gold” trim.
Stamped with a supple “Midnight Navy” base layer, crisp white hues fill the sidewall’s enlarged “Air” lettering while “University Red” hits animate the tongue tab and the set of swooshes laid out across the tread underfoot. What’s more, the vamp and heel’s jewel swooshes are color-matched to the murky two-toned surroundings.
The Nike Air More Uptempo “Olympic” is expected to release as a part of the Nike Sportswear Fall Collection in 2024. In the meantime, we’ve included a pair from 2020 as we await the reveal of first-look imagery.
