adidas México continues to bring cultural heritage to the German sportswear brand’s most iconic silhouettes.
Ahead of Día de Muertos, the team south of the U.S. has unveiled three styles – Samba, Gazelle, Campus 00s – in color schemes emblematic of the holiday. A rich orange nods to the cempasúchil flower native to Mexico and oft-associated with the Day of the Dead, while special stitching across the upper mimics decorative tapetes and papel picado prepped for commemorative altars. High-quality leather and suede cover the Día de Muertos adidas lineup, delivering elevated touches to the celebratory offerings.
Although the collection is exclusive to adidas Mexico, the November 1st holiday is observed across the Spanish-speaking world. People on the terrestrial plane remember loved ones who’ve transitioned to the afterlife (Mictlán in Aztec mythology), often setting up ofrendas with their favorite items. The Three Stripes’ “Day of the Dead” series brings a common concept to life as the adidas Samba, Gazelle, and Campus 00s allow wearers to quite-literally walk through life with the memory of their kith and kin.
Enjoy official photography of the Día de Muertos collection ahead. The adidas Originals trio is now available via adidas.mx and adidas Originals stores throughout the country. No sign of a wider, global release is in sight. Prices range from $2,100 MXN to $2,200 MXN (approximately $118 USD – $123 USD).
