Few upstart brands have been able the bottle and release disruption like MSCHF has. From their wacky projects like their backwards shoe that can be worn in both directions to their industry partnerships like their Big Red Boot (Yellow) with Crocs, the brand started by a former Buzzfeed employee has gained a cult following of sneakerheads and attention-seekers alike.
Perhaps their most validating collaboration yet is easily with Reebok. Together, they bring to life the Pump Omni Zone IX — a reimagined take the Omni Zone II with eight additional Pump bladders surrounding the shoe (thus the Omni Zone IX). The brand is prominently featured on some of the exterior air chambers as well as on the outsole, embedded into the traction in the signature Reebok type. On the heel is “Boing Boing”, which alludes to the bouncy effect the shoes were purported to have when it first launched in the early 1990s.
To officially unveil the project, MSCHF has enlisted Dee Brown, the 1991 Dunk Contest champion who helped popularize the sneaker by pumping up the Omni Zone II on live television. Joining him in a game of one-on-one is his son Anakin; clearly Dee is a huge Star Wars fanatic. As they continue to pump up their shoes, their hoops clothing begin to fill with air; they eventually float away into the horizon when Dee attempts his no-look dunk with his son trying to block him.
Both the white/blue/orange and the “Sunbleached” colorways of the MSCHF x Reebok Pump Omni Zone IX will be available on September 27th, 2023 via a 24-hour Draw exclusively on MSCHF and the MSCHF App. MSRP is set at $250 per pair.
