Based in Los Angeles, Advisory Board Crystals has been “thinking critically” since 2015. Widely-known for their “Abc.”-branded socks, the California-based label is ready to enter the mainstream zeitgeist with its latest project: the Vans EVDNT EXT ULTI.
Crafted via a “Miracle Conditions” concept, the collaboration marks the first time Advisory Board Crystals works with the Anaheim institution. According to Remington Guest, co-founder of Abc., the Vans footwear project has been four years in the making. Although neither partner has shared all specifications about the joint-effort, a quick glance reveals a product unlike any other Vans currently on the market.
“Produced and programmed with specific energy & intention,” the Vans EVDNT EXT ULTI by Abc. reinvents the action brand’s skate shoe. Canvas, suede, and a slew of other materials come together across the upper in a package that wouldn’t seem out of place in the original Ghostbusters film. Simultaneously, the iridescent touches across “Abc.” logos on the lateral heel, and upper and mid-foot eyelets, chrome accouterments, and series of protruding components (pull tabs and laces) inject a future-forwardness into the shoe. The semi-translucent outsole also contributes to the Abc. x Vans collaboration’s otherworldly aesthetic, revealing the all-over print that animates each sockliner.
Elsewhere, shoe boxes have also been redesigned by Guest and his partner Heather Haber. Abc. has also designed apparel as part of the “Miracle Conditions” project, further differentiating the partnership from others.
Enjoy official photography of the first-time collaboration ahead, and expect a limited launch on August 17th. The pair retails for a price of $175 USD.
