The New Balance 997R Gets Ready For Fall 2023 In A Batch Of Styles

Over the past decade, New Balance has updated some of its most iconic product for younger, more budget-conscious audiences.

Ahead of summer, the New Balance 997R – which serves as a refresh of the NB 997 that debuted in 1991 – has emerged in a handful of fall-friendly styles. Sleeker and less expensive than the mainline New Balance 997, the NB 997R features a mesh and suede upper akin to the company’s marquee performance running sneakers of the past. Off white, yellow, green, and other hues animate the upcoming collection, keeping things simple, but versatile. Furthermore, the sole unit underfoot abandons top-of-the-line cushioning for a worthwhile solution; midsoles inject an “aged” aesthetic into the NB 997R offerings, demonstrating the brand’s understanding of the sneaker market. The sportier design is sure to do well once it launches.
