After 30 years at NIKE, Inc., sneaker designer Gentry Humphrey has announced his departure from the North American company.
Known for his work on the Air Jordan line, Humphrey will launch his own footwear brand. Named “CODE by Gentry,” the all-new imprint is far-removed from the performance-oriented product Humphrey spent decades developing for “His Airness.” CODE by Gentry will operate as a direct-to-consumer, e-commerce business focused on casual footwear priced between $150 USD to $165 USD.
“CODE By Gentry realizes there are certain societal ‘dress codes’ that need to be adhered to in order to be accepted or gain credibility in specific environments,” said Humphrey in an official press release “CODE By Gentry brand is savvy enough to walk the line between tradition and evolution, and courageous enough to creatively transform societal norms to meet our consumers’ needs.”
