The 2002R and 1906R were evidently just the beginning for New Balance. Soon, even the 997 — which is currently only available as a kids and golf shoe — will be receiving the same, remastered treatment as the aforementioned silhouettes.
Over the years, the New Balance 997 has been remodeled in a variety of ways, straying further and further from its initial design. This continues to be the case with the newly-revealed 997R, whose upper and sole have undergone a number of tweaks. While it may feature a passing resemblance to that of the OG, the tooling here adjusts and reshapes the lines of the original mold. The upper features subtle differences of its own: in addition to reworking the overall paneling, the silhouette partially tucks away its “N” logo.
Enjoy an early look at the New Balance 997R right here. More information — from design specs to a firm release date — are sure to surface soon, so sit tight and stay tuned for updates.
