Nike is constantly rethinking the designs of their most beloved classics, ushering in models the likes of the Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT and Air Force 1 Fontanka. The Air Max line-up, too, has proffered its fair share of experiments, with 2022 marking the debut of the Air Max 90 Futura. And as a result of the latter’s success, the Swoosh is adding another icon to the family: the Air Max 97.
A relatively sizable departure from Christian Tresser’s initial vision, the Nike Air Max 97 Futura echoes the contemporary design ethos of its Air Max 90-shaped counterpart. But whereas the latter retained much of the original shape, the 97 opts for a look that’s both taller as well as somewhat bulkier. The model — alongside swapping out its sole for a platform-sized variant — has made a number of tweaks to its construction: in addition to rearranging the entirety of the paneling, the upper features extra padding around the heel and collar as well as what is essentially a hidden placket.
The Nike Air Max 97 Futura should be available soon via Nike.com and select retailers. As we await more info, enjoy a close-up look at the shoe in its GS size ahead.
In other news, a first look at the 2023 Air Jordan 8 Playoffs was shared last night.
