From shining a light on his Windy City roots and childhood to representing the non-verbal communication held by the Black community, Joe Freshgoods has routinely infused a personal, anecdotal theme within each of his collaborative works with New Balance; the fifth of which is set to debut on Thursday.

As a part of the Chicago native’s latest joint effort with the Boston-based brand, two-thirds of the “Beneath The Surface” pack arrives this week in the 610s “Latte” treated ensemble and the NB Rainier, both ready to strike the great outdoors. Adding a layered depth and detailing to the embroidered tan overlays, a woodland pattern elevates the latter paneling of the low-top model atop a trench of pitch-dark diamond-knit mesh.

Cast across the camo-print mesh underlays, the aforementioned silhouette is injected with vibrant “Carrot” highlights throughout, concentrating on the mid-foot “N” logo, the heel’s ballistic mesh and the lugs of the tread underfoot. In contrast, a more true-to-form camo envelops the base layer of the Rainier in a digitized aesthetic with titular nubuck green overlays, a Goretex membrane and golden metallic eyelets.
