Over the course of the past few years, Nike has steadily laid the groundwork for their own Web3 initiatives. Alongside the Our Force 1 Collection — which is soon underway, according to .SWOOSH — the brand has teamed up with the digital natives at RTFKT to craft an entire range of Air Force 1 NFTs, some of which were designed by none other than Takashi Murakami himself.
Stepping further into the world of Web3 in one of the most iconic pieces of footwear ever made, RTFKT and Nike have prepared ten different interpretations of the Air Force 1, each limited to a certain quantity. Outside of their colorways, every pair is built atop the same foundation, one marginally distinct from the Bruce Kilgore-designed sneaker we’re well-accustomed to. While its base is largely faithful to the original blueprint, the medial Swoosh has been completely replaced with RTFKT’s own logo. What’s more — alongside incorporating a variety of different graphics — the shoes are equipped with a novel dubrae whose look is not unlike the equipment you’d find in a lab.
From April 24th to May 8th, RTFKT and Nike will begin “The Forging Event,” during which holders of eligible digital collectibles will be able to redeem their Air Force 1 NFTs for physical, made-to-order sneakers. The event will only be live for a limited time, and there will be no extra cost to forge save for gas fees. If you’d like to secure a pair for yourself ahead of the 24th, you can purchase any one of the ten designs on OpenSea as well as other secondary marketplaces.
