In 1985 one single photo defined a seismic cultural shift within the sporting world. Michael Jordan had arrived and the beginnings of his now multi-billion dollar business still resided in its infancy. The six championship rings and GOAT status would come, but first, the legend of MJ would be cemented by the now-famous “Jumpman” photo picturing Jordan in his signature dunking pose.
Nearly 40 years later, the staple hues from his skyline photo have made their way onto the Air Jordan 1, which releases this Saturday. Mimicking the sunset background atop the canvas overlays, light oranges and pinks placed along the mudguard begin to transition to a luminous set of purples and blues across the back half of the model. Contrasting the full-length gradient, a supple tumbled leather base layer dawns a crisp white introduction in tandem with the tongue construction whereas jet-black contrasts align across the laces, mid-foot Swoosh, upper collar and winged insignia. Finished by an aged “Sail” treated midsole, the specially crafted box mirrors the iconic photo with bright red branding in conclusion.
Scheduled to release this coming Saturday, March 18th for a retail price of $180, enjoy one last look at the Air Jordan 1 “Skyline” below in the meantime.
For more from underneath the Jumpman banner, official images of the Air Jordan 11 “Cement Grey” recently surfaced.
