While it may seem that sustainable practices in the modern footwear industry are a clever blend of marketing and actual good, Nike has been pushing for green since the early 1990s through various recycling programs. Sneakerheads probably remember the Nike Considered line most readily; initially launching in 2005, Nike Considered emphasized sustainability with its ideas with intentional made-from-nothing design. The first wave of sneakers included the Considered Boot, while later models like the Considered Mowabb and Considered 2k5 obviously leveraged existing shoes.
Much of the Considered footwear line-up utilized woven upper construction and a very distinct outsole pattern that could be compared to Nike Free. The Watercat from 2006 was an extreme version of that idea with and upper constructed by straps that were connected by a lace collar. The newly redesigned Watercat+ , seen here in a Court Purple colorway achieves a common vision, but admittedly far more wearable in terms of casual use and aquatic use.
Several colorways of the ACG Watercat+ are set to drop this Summer 2023; see the official images ahead and stay tuned for release updates.
