“Tommy Jewels” might not ring a bell if you’re not from downtown New York City and haven’t ventured into Chinatown for picture pendants, grills, and other jewelry. Yet, the longtime 82 Bowery fixture will get on more people’s radars with his first PUMA SUEDE collaboration.
As with inline versions of the shoe Walt “Clyde” Frazier helped popularize, the special pair features grey suede across the upper. Jewels applies a reptilian finish to the stripes at the sides as a touch of luxury; shimmering golden accents near the laces and at the heel follow suit. The downtown jeweler’s name lands underneath PUMA logos on the lateral wall, while “STAY GOLD” messaging is stamped near the spine. Furthermore, Jewels replaces wildcat graphics on the Achilles’ heel panel with golden Mandarin characters. Lastly, the two sets of included laces (done in cream or black colors) appear with golden aglets.
Only 73 pairs of Tommy Jewels’ collaboration will release to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the PUMA CLYDE. Those interested can buy the pair at 82 Bowery in NYC and at Solely Tea at 111 Eldridge starting on February 11.
