Jared Ebanks Michael Jordan’s journey from Chapel Hill to Chicago has been well-documented across Jordan Brand’s retro-tooled offerings. While the Air Jordan 2 Low is set to retell the famed “UNC to Chicago” expedition, the Beaverton brand’s youth-exclusive efforts have taken a strategic approach towards rekindling the connection between His Airness and the next generation. From expressing the roots of the “Bred” colorway to partaking in the Air Jordan 1’s sunset photo shoot, the Air Jordan 1 Mid is now harkening the AJ 2’s upcoming sequence with a golden twist.
Save its mudguard, heel counter and upper ankle panel, the entirety of the silhouette indulges in a crisp white blank base layer, color-matched along the pair’s laces and presiding tongue construction. Coordinating along the tongue trim and aforementioned forefoot overlay, a North Carolina-inspired “University Blue” mimics the beginnings of Jordan’s career at the front of the silhouette. The back half, including its heel panel and nylon sock liner indulge in a vibrant red outfit while both suede-treated panels explore a golden foil “Elephant Print” finish. Furthering the pair’s premium embellishments, a secondary wave of golden metallics washes over the midfoot Swooshes, winged insignia, upper collar and the tongue tabs shadowed motif of Jordan’s side profile.
Concluded by pairing the latter titular hues with a semi-translucent ice-white trim along the tread, a Bomb Pop aesthetic conjoins the pair’s overall efforts underfoot.
