While February usually sees the sneaker ecosystem’s largest entities unveil their honorary Lunar New Year compositions, the upcoming Year of the Rabbit has instead proffered first looks at the various upcoming slates before the end of the calendar year. As such, Tokyo-based retailer atmos has officially teased New Balances’ ensuing collection that taps the full breadth of the Boston brand’s lifestyle offerings.
Four silhouettes are harkened for a total of eight neutral-toned efforts, expressing the valuable time spent with family and friends during the holiday by featuring a bevy of disparate constructions for a diverse array of appreciations and palettes. Setting up shop on a duo of New Balance 550’s, clad beige and cream uppers coordinate with opposing lace and sole unit structures, similar to that of the 2002R’s opposing Off-White/Deep Garnet Red and Chocolate Brown/Grey efforts. After its use as a seldom lace accent, the dark burgundy shade looks to envelop the NB 574 alongside an all-tan proposition while the latter’s pairing in tandem with light cream hues cures a simplified aesthetic unto the solo NB 90/60. Matching the roughed-up build of its Protection Pack 2002R with a matching amalgamation of pastels, the pack concludes on the feet of Shikin Hanten’s workers – an old-fashioned Chinese restaurant in Harajuku, Shibuya.
