With their pre-distressed and vintage-inspired offerings, Nike takes on the brunt of the work. But every so often, the brand’s design team will put the onus on the wearer, trusting them to decorate pairs like 2019’s LeBron x Air Force 1 “More Than.” Fast forward three years later and the Swoosh is effectively recreating said release with the Air Max 95 “Sketch With The Past,” once again packaging markers alongside an iconic silhouette.
Similar to its Bruce Kilgore-designed counterpart, this Air Max 95 leaves negative space, albeit much less, for you to play with. The profile’s white layers — aside from the text, arrows, and Swooshes already there — are left predominantly blank so that one can draw as much as the surface area affords. Beyond that, there’s not much else to customize, as most panels, fixtures, and details — save for the “1987” on the tongue and the graphic on the heel — are entirely blacked out.
