Back in 2021, Mimi Plange — a Ghana-born, US-raised designer who founded her brand in 2010 alongside Ibrahim Ndoye — joined forces with Nike for a four-part collection of LeBron 18 Low colorways. And following the release of the “Higher Learning” and “Daughters,” Plange will once again reimagine the signature sneaker, rounding out the range with two additional, African-inspired colorways: “Scarred Perfection” and “Mad King.”
With the “Scarred Perfection,” Plange celebrates African body adornment and identity, effectively shining tradition through a more contemporary lens. “Individuality” and “tribalism” can be felt through the design, from the upper’s quilted elements to the Swoosh’s use of trapunto techniques. The colorway itself, then, backlights these various details with shades of ivory, coral, purple, and sky blue.
The accompanying “Mad King” is dressed with the signature writings of the Bantu people, an ethnolinguistic grouping in Africa with over 400 distinct communities. In complement to its vibrant palette — which consists of rich, nature-inspired hues — the shoe features the symbols for wisdom, unity, greatness, and the future. In addition, the image for lion marks the shoe in direct nod to LeBron himself.
Both the “Scarred Perfection” and “Mad King” colorways of the Nike LeBron 18 Low will be available on October 14th exclusively through mimiplange.com.
