“UNDERCOVER” may not be one of the immediate names that comes to mind when thinking about Nike’s current most important collaborators, but the Japanese institution has a track record that speaks for itself. As part of the Air Force 1‘s 40th anniversary, the Jun Takahashi-led imprint has reimagined Bruce Kilgore’s made-for-basketball design as a technical footwear proposition.
Unveiled as part of its Spring/Summer 2022 collection, UNDERCOVER’s Air Force 1 Low keeps things relatively simple in terms of color palettes, favoring greyscale, unassuming tones. What the collaboration – which has appeared in three styles – lacks in color, however, is made up for in technical modifications. GORE-TEX panels cover the entirety of the sneaker’s upper, injecting weather-resistance into the pair. A neoprene bootie equipped with a pull-tab at the heel delivers updated function to the 40-year-old design, coupling with the lockdown strap running from the top of the tongue and attached to a molded heel component for a superior fit. Collaboration-specific branding lands on the lace dubraes, tongue label, sock-liners and heel.
No firm Nike SNKRS launch details have been disclosed by the brand as of yet, but that’s likely to change as autumn gets going. In the meantime, enjoy official images of the pair ahead.
