From Rick James, to Tupac to the entirety of the Wu-Tang Clan, Kevin Durant has long held a special kinship with music and its creators, dawning each of the three artists in a left leg tattoo sleeve. Amidst a flurry of boastful colorways for his 15th signature silhouette with NIKE, the latest rendition to surface pays homage to legendary music producer – and college professor – 9th Wonder.
Previously introducing his fixation for tunes through contrasting ‘Chill’ and ‘Hype’ colorways of the KD 13, the initial look marks the fulfillment of the Producer Pack that so far has included the likes of Durant’s favorite hip-hop composers in Cardo and Boi 1da.
Inspired by his 2020 LP Douthit’s Zion V: The Ballad Of Charles Douthit, 9th’s execution dresses the upper in black mesh and the heel counter in a light tan suede. Just as he takes classics and remixes them with a vibrant touch, the color blocking strikes with opposing hits of purple and orange on the back tab, sock liners and inner tongue while the duality continues into the Zoom air bags and matching brown caging.
