Union Los Angeles has been further cementing itself as an important piece of streetwear over the last five years, thanks in large part to its Air Jordan and other NIKE, Inc. collaborations.
For Summer 2022, the Chris Gibbs-led cohort has reimagined the Nike Cortez – a shoe that’s important to LA and is celebrating its 50th anniversary – in such a way that it appears like something from the modern age. Consisting of four colorways, Union’s latest swoosh-branded project is set to release “Smoke Grey” and “Lemon Frost” takes on the creation from 1972 come July 21st. Both pairs blend a decades-old shape and visual language with future-thinking Crater Foam cushioning. Seemingly “random” color-blocking across the Cortez pairs also deliver experimentation to the SoCal-staple that will propel it into its next half-century.
Enjoy another set of images of the pairs ahead, and sit tight for more release details as Thursday, July 21st, inches closer.
