Bryant Giles isn’t restricted to any one medium — and with his very first partnership with New Balance, the LA-based artist is channeling his vision through the 2002R.
Unveiled earlier this year, the collaboration sees the 2002R two ways. The first pair retains the silhouette’s usual shape, though built out with olive canvas. This monochromatic base lays the foundation for original artwork by Giles himself, which embroiders along the shoe in black, yellow, green, and pink thread. Additionally, the “N” logo along the side is made removable through Velcro, affording a degree of customization.
The detachable logo and many of the same, provocative motifs are also found on the second 2002R, albeit better highlighted by the shoe’s off-white canvas. What’s more, this “Artist’s Shoe” as Giles dubs it features a slip-on construction, an idea born from long hours spent in the studio.
