Nike’s First Sneaker NFT Is, Predictably, A Dunk

Nike’s First Sneaker NFT Is, Predictably, A Dunk

It’s long been known that Nike was preparing to enter the metaverse, as their plans to craft digital sneakers and wearables were disclosed back in November of last year. And once the brand added RTFKT Studios, the team behind notable projects like CloneX, it was clear they had no intention of phoning anything in.

Today, RTFKT officially revealed Nike CryptoKicks, what they claim is the “Future of Sneakers.” And, predictably, the project casts a spotlight on what may be the Swoosh’s most beloved silhouette: the Dunk Low.

The silhouette itself sees a noteworthy makeover, made futuristic with a series of metallic parts and a heavily modified sole unit. The paneling, too, is adjusted to match, swapped out for screens to allow for further customization. This is done through Skin Vials, a feature that allows you to change the look of the Nike Dunk Genesis as well as any “compatible sneakers.” The selection of skins borrows the expertise of both renowned artists as well as the community, and Nike mentions that one can loud up “thousands of skins” to a single pair.

Nike CryptoKicks will kick off with EVO X, a collection made up of eight different skins that can be evolved with various upgrades and powers. More details about the launch as well as the project itself should surface very soon. For now, take a look at the full announcement video below.
