Unveiled during the Summer of last year, the NMD S1 completely reimagines the original silhouette, effectively evolving one of adidas’ most iconic offerings. And just as he did all those years ago, Pharrell is further experimenting with the line-up’s design language, now injecting his own personal love and appreciation for the outdoors.
Enter the Hu NMD S1 RYAT, a hiking-inspired modification that is near unrecognizable from what it’s based on. Designed throughout the pandemic, the model — much like us — was adjusted to suit an entirely new way of living, combining a number of complex, at-times contradictory ideas: “material realities and imagined futures, objects of beauty, and tools for performance.” The result is an entirely new performance category, and Pharrell himself considers the shoe a “cultural artifact and an object for humans pushing forward on our planet.”
Functional just as it is durable, the NMD S1 RYAT was made meticulously, every part essential. Premium suedes and leather overlays make up the upper, with a rubberized TPU mudguard and toe cap further demonstrating the overall quality. BOOST soles cushion underfoot, while the Trefoil-replete outsole proffers grip as well as branding. All is then packaged up in a clean white colorway, which evokes the feeling of a futuristic utopia.
Enjoy a close-up, detailed look at the Hu NMD S1 RYAT right here, and expect a release to hit adidas.com as well as select retailers this Saturday, April 23rd.
