Jovani Hernandez Although Nike FlyEase technology debuted during Summer 2015, its concept predates its appearance on the LeBron Soldier 8 by at least 11 years. Matt Parker, after learning of the brand’s first employee, Jeff Johnson, suffering a stroke, sought to develop footwear that enabled easy on and off access for those without full body functionality. Since the mid-aughts, the Swoosh has implemented various iterations of the revolutionary design approach to a number of projects, the latest being the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star CX FlyEase.
Akin to its umbrella company, the “One Star Brand” has implemented FlyEase technology (developed by Tobie Hatfield) into one of its most iconic and popular silhouettes. Forgoing the model-specific components designed for the Nike Go FlyEase, Converse‘s proposition adds a collapsable heel to the low-top silhouette similar to a previously-seen Air Max 90. The remainder of the shoe indulges in the detailing that has made the Chuck Taylor a classic over the last 100 years: ribbony canvas covers the upper, while foxing tape delivers function and aesthetics to the model.
To highlight the pair’s FlyEase component, the Boston-based brand has included an instructional visual at the lateral mid-foot. Furthermore, the midsole’s semi-translucent back portion helps the innovative heel counter appear that much more prominently, while also exposing the updated, comfortable CX foam cushioning that accompanies the modern touch to Converse’s 1922 design.
The Chuck Taylor All Star CX FlyEase arrives to Greater China, South Korea and other global markets on February 24th; releases in Western Europe, North American and on Converse.com will take place on March 17th. While you wait, enjoy a closer look at the two debut colorways here below.
