Since 2008, Elissa Steamer has been hitting wheel to pavement for Nike SB. And while diehard skaters had been aware of the Florida-native’s skill since the mid-1990s, a wider sneaker-obsessed audience became familiar with Steamer in June 2019 with the release of her Gnarhunters brand’s own Blazer Mid. As the first month of 2022 comes to an end, news has leaked of the skate and surf label’s very own Nike SB Dunk Low collaboration.
Akin to its predecessor, the upcoming sneakers indulge in a predominantly “Black” colorway. Profile swooshes seemingly forgo the greyscale patterned arrangement of its taller kin, but they maintain a textured construction that’s become part of Gnarhuhnters’ design language. Toe boxes, mid-foot panels and collar lining also indulge in a towel-like, chenille-reminiscent material that surely delivers reliable board feel and durability to the latest Nike Dunk-variant. Beyond any performant benefits, Steamer’s decision works in-tandem with the “FUN SCREEN” graphic printed on the sock-liner to nod to her personal and business interest in surfing. Profile swooshes stick out at the rear, arriving just underneath “GNAR” text in contrasting “White”; “Gnarhunters” cover the top of the tongues in a hand drawn-like style that further showcases Steamer’s affinity for “raw” aesthetics. Speed-lacing systems, partly-serrated hangtags and all-“White” tread further add the 46-year-old’s personal takes to the Nike’s storied silhouette.
No party involved has disclosed Nike SNKRS and/or skate shop release details, but that’s likely to change before springtime.
Elsewhere under the NIKE, Inc. umbrella, the sacai x Nike Cortez is expected to arrive during the autumn and winter.
