UPDATE 2/1/2022:
adidas and Prada’s user-generated NFT can now be previewed via adidas.com/prada-nft; it was listed for auction on SuperRare, ending with a winning bid of 30 Ethereum.
Forever obsessed with the future, adidas has been hard at work to get ahead of the competition with regards to the metaverse. The German sportswear behemoth has done so by teaming up with Bored Ape Yacht Club, and has recently tapped luxury collaborator Prada for its latest foray into the new digital frontier: a user-generated NFT (non-fungible token) art project.
The first-of-its-kind interactive proposition will utilize blockchain Polygon Web3, and consist of 3,000 individual tiles to which the global metaverse community could contribute. Digital artist and educator Zach Lieberman has also been included in the project, ultimately being tasked with developing one final art piece that’ll be auctioned off. adidas Originals has pledged primary sale profits to two climate-focused organizations – Slow Factory and UNESCO Sea Beyond; as is made possible with NFTs, a percentage of any secondary sales of Lieberman’s work will be split between the creators of the tile artwork each time it’s sold. All 3,000 individual pieces – which will be inspired by the Prada Re-Nylon adidas Forum and accompanying apparel that dropped on January 13th – will be minted as unique NFTs, giving each contributor ownership of said artwork.
Beginning on January 24th, any user can register for a digital wallet for a chance to join the adidas for Prada re-source initiative. Following the waitlist period, 3,000 contributors will be selected at random, though half of the spots have been reserved for users who have previously engaged with the Three Stripes’ “Into the Metaverse” NFT. Lastly, selected members will have the option to mint their initial photograph contribution as an NFT, free of cost, between January 26th and 27th, with Lieberman’s final artwork selling at auction via SuperRare from January 28th to 31st. Keep an eye on adidas.com/prada-nft for all updates.
Elsewhere under the Three Stripes banner, the red Yeezy 350 CMPCT is set to launch on Valentine’s Day.
