Founded by Ronnie Fieg in 2011, the New York City-based label Kith has accomplished a lot in just a decade. And while partnerships with Coca-Cola, BMW and a plethora of other institutions have consistently raised the bar for what a “streetwear” brand can do, footwear collaborations with companies the likes of New Balance have allowed opened many doors for Fieg’s team.
In celebration of Kith’s 10th anniversary, the Queens-native has put together a handful of special projects, which includes a New Balance 990v3 dipped in the fan-favorite “Daytona” colorway first seen atop the New Balance 1600 in 2013. As was the case with the ASICS GEL-Lyte V duo launched on November 26th, the newly-surfaced pair pays homage to past “RF”-branded sneakers, envisioning old color-blockings in new ways. Inspired by trips to Daytona Beach, Florida Fieg went on with his family when he was younger, the arrangement couples premium pig suede, breathable mesh and smooth leather with a navy, cream and light brown color palette. The “Daytona”‘s highly-visible touch of pink at the profile “N” logos reprises its role, though it’s removed from the NB 990v3’s tongue underside, vamp area and outsole. “RF”-stamped lace dubraes and the clever “KXTH” logo at the spine bring some of that SoFlo flair into the mix, while sole units keep things simple in a slight yellow, white and black makeup.
