Not long after announcing its “Move to Zero” initiative, NIKE, Inc. unveiled several products created with sustainability in mind. Among them, handfuls of options under the Next Nature banner, which now includes a Nike Blazer Mid ’77 in “White/University Blue.”
While the colorway isn’t new to the Swoosh’s first-ever basketball-specific design, it’s appearance alongside the partly-recycled Next Nature build is. Akin to some of the most iconic Nike Blazer Mid iterations of yesteryear, the newly-surfaced pair indulges in a smooth synthetic leather base that sets the stage for “University Blue” accents across the upper. Profile swooshes, branding on the tongue label and underlays all opt for the University of North Carolina-associated tone. Suede reinforcement around the forefoot boast a slightly-lighter shade than usual, while sole units underfoot indulge in the biggest deviation from the standard mid-top silhouette. Faint speckling throughout the midsole suggests upcycled material went into the sneaker’s bottom-half, and confirmed by the swoosh-wheel logo on the sock-liner, the collection’s symbol.
